13Y after you posted this video, The Law School Scam has only gotten worse. There are 11 ABA-accredited law schools in Florida, 10 in Pennsylvania, 6 in tiny DC, and so on. Each of those jurisdictions is ideally suited for having one law school, with a small graduating class each year. It should be painfully obvious that the job field for JD's is profoundly oversaturated, and that going to Law School is a terrible idea, but gullible fools keep going anyway. . .

This has a lot of truth. I loved school and found practicing law a mixed experience. Now I’m retired. Never regretted going to law school. I had no debt which wouldn’t be possible today. If you can go to a well ranked school and your personality fits, you should go. The problem is you might not be able to know if you fit. I practiced law 30 years and had a lot of business experience as well. Being a lawyer was an advantage. I don’t regret it at all.

So law school grades, especially 1L (first year) law school grades are important--and, in fact, they're very important--for 10 percent of the class. At most law schools, only folks who are in the top ten percent will make Law Review and be eligible for jobs with large, high-paying law firms. But. . .the problem is, that for 9 out of 10 law students, grades are entirely irrelevant. Telling someone you're in the top 31.67 percentile of your class is meaningless. All of that said, law students tend to be gullible. To prevent the big-law-or-bust crowd from dropping out when 90 percent of the realize they are busted, law schools will lie, and use things like Secondary Journals (non Law Review). This leads to idiots pretending that if they're NOT top 10 percent/Law Review, but ARE top 1/3 & Space Law Journal, well, that's pretty much the same thing, right? Right. . .and the law professors laugh at them, and they end up 250K in debt and never finding a job working as a lawyer, in any capacity, at all. Don't fall for The Law School Scam. And don't participate in Secondary Journals or other meaningless junk that will send your resume straight to the shredder.

Hot take: This is the kind of gatekeeping sentiment that discourages people from trying anything. It's sneery and mean-spirited. Have you ever read Twilight? Millions of people love it but I wouldn't rate it. Have you read Infinite Jest? It's considered one of the best American novels of all time and I cannot get through it to save my life. I love Stephen King but I don't love every book he's ever written. Conversely, there are probably a million amazing novels that you haven't even heard of. My point is you have to write for yourself and screw anyone that tells you you can't. Maybe it will be bad; so what? Maybe you'll never sell a copy; so what? Perhaps instead of belittling the naïve dreamers out there, we encourage and support them to start and keep going. Maybe the accomplishment is in putting yourself out there. Better done than perfect. Who knows, they may write something wonderful, beautiful, or popular. Maybe they find their audience, which is probably more important than quality anyway, given that quality is so subjective.

It's interesting to revist this video after 10 years realizing the publishing industry has changed drastically. It's become a lot more political and agenda oriented. You don't need an agent anymore, you don't need to know somebody who knows somebody, and you can self publish within a year. It's definitely swung in favor of the author now.

This is a disaster that's called self entitlement... And many are prone to it. Many writers or even many people of different occupations start out barking out strong thoughts either out loud or inside, convincing themselves everything will be ok, and then they realize they have to do extensive research, improvement, and repeat that process a thousand times over while still learning about the other intricacies of their chosen carrier. I felt my mood drop low the moment I heard that robotic voice piglet speak out loud what it would do, and how it would do it... And by that I mean he wasn't writing by the seat of their pants, he was taking life by the seat of it's pants... That's not a very wise decision to make and only after just entering a whole new enterprise. And that's not even covering the whole story.
